Setting International Standards

I’m not much of a doomsayer, but I do like to say I told you so. Israel has been taking some very heavy handed measures against anyone who has committed “terrorist acts” against them in the last few weeks. President Bush went on the record to say that Israel has a right to defend it’s self, but has not really said much else regarding the actions they have taken.
I read this statement today on CNN, and could not help but think that the US has set a very bad president. I actually said that when we originally went into Afghanistan.
Syria’s ambassador to the US said Washington should restrain Israel, but Israel’s Justice Minister, Haim Ramon, told Army Radio: “We will act in the same proportions that Russia is using against the Chechens and the US has used against [Osama] bin Laden in Afghanistan.”
Just to be clear, we have set the example for what is acceptable when dealing with Terrorists. The last time we set this kind of example, Japan got the reciving end of a very big bomb.
